About

Vasco Cotovio is an award-winning field producer based in London. Part of the London newsgathering team, he works across the EMEA region and Latin America, producing cross-platform stories, specializing in news and features.

Cotovio joined CNN in 2014 after working as a TV reporter for Portugal’s SIC Noticias. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies from the Portuguese Catholic University and a Master’s degree in International Relations from Queen Mary University of London.

In 2017 he was part of the team deployed to cover the terrorist attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, whose coverage was nominated for an Emmy award. Cotovio was also an early contributor to CNN’s unwavering coverage of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which received a duPont-Columbia award in 2020.

When Venezuela began to hit the headlines, Cotovio was one of the first CNN journalists to enter the country. He produced powerful reports for both TV and Digital audiences, including a six-month investigation into the links between Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the criminal gangs running most of the country’s gold mining industry, which received an Emmy for Outstanding Business, Consumer or Economic report.
