About

Sophie Jeong is a Newsdesk Producer for CNN’s International Desk, based at the network’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. She is responsible for gathering and verifying breaking news and major stories across the region as well as producing content for CNN’s TV and digital platforms.

Before moving to Hong Kong in 2020, Jeong was based at CNN’s Seoul bureau, where she produced news and feature stories from North and South Korea. She covered some of the biggest stories on the Korean Peninsula, including two historic North Korea-United States summits in Singapore and Hanoi, the trilateral meeting of the leaders of the Koreas and the US at the demilitarized zone, three inter-Korean summits in 2018 and the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

She also produced several distinctive reports from South Korea including stories about young people shunning romantic relationships, a feminist movement known as “escape the corset,” smartphone addiction camps and gender discrimination in hiring.

Prior to Seoul, Jeong was based at CNN’s World Headquarters in Atlanta, where she worked in multiple departments including the International Desk, CNNI Programming, International Newsource and Production Technology.

Jeong attended Vanderbilt University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies and Communication Studies as a Chancellor’s Scholar.
