About

Monica Garrett is a meteorologist with CNN’s weather and climate unit, a weather producer and a CNN Digital contributor. Since joining CNN in 2010, she has covered major weather events around the globe, from devastating hurricanes, tornado outbreaks and wildfires to historic winter storms, floods and droughts.

Garrett supports on-air meteorologists by creating detailed graphics and other easy-to-grasp presentations that capture the realities of catastrophic weather events. In addition to her support for CNN, CNNi and HLN coverage, she writes, edits and produces video content for CNN.com. And she writes digital stories that highlight critical forecasts while explaining the science behind them.

Garrett works to incorporate how the climate crisis impacts the frequency and intensity of weather events. In 2019, she produced a climate series with colleague Chad Myers, “I am a CNN meteorologist. I used to be a climate crisis skeptic.”

Garrett has been nominated twice for Emmys for her contribution to CNN’s breaking news coverage of Hurricanes Harvey and Dorian.

She earned a master of science degree in Earth and atmospheric sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor of science degree in communication arts, broadcasting from Georgia Southern University.
