Karl de Vries leads CNN Politics’ breaking news team, working with reporters and beat editors to deliver dynamic coverage on a vast assortment of topics, from the Trump administration to national security to zeitgeist stories buzzing around the Internet. He joined CNN in April 2015, playing a key role in CNN Politics’ coverage of the 2016 campaign and final years of the Obama administration.

Before joining CNN, de Vries was a news editor for the FoxNews.com homepage, with a particular emphasis on politics and breaking news. Previously, he was a reporter and digital producer for Newsday and The Star-Ledger of Newark, New Jersey. De Vries has participated in the coverage of some of the most urgent and memorable breaking news stories over the past decade, including the death of Osama bin Laden, the 2014 midterm elections and the Paris newspaper attacks.

A native New Jerseyan, de Vries is a graduate of Montclair State University, where he served two years as the editor-in-chief of its student-produced newspaper, The Montclarion.
