Janelle leads the digital and social editorial strategy for CNN Original Series and CNN Films. She pitches, produces and commissions compelling multiplatform content, including feature articles, interactives, photo galleries, original videos, Q&As and newsletters. Under her leadership, social engagement increased 3.4x on films page views doubled and intentional video starts quadrupled for content supporting CNN’s Emmy-award-winning series “Stanely Tucci: Searching for Italy.” She also run the weekly Keep Watching newsletter.

Previously, she was a producer on the social team where she created CNN’s award-winning Instagram stories series featuring reporters around the world and launched CNN’s TikTok channel. From 2018 to 2021, CNN’s Instagram audience grew 291%, gaining over 12 million followers, and total actions increased by 369%.

She also conceived and executed innovative social plans for Twitter (including Twitter moments and Twitter Spaces), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Line and chat apps. She collaborated with teams across the network to create customized rollout plans.

In addition, she pitched, shot, wrote and edited original videos for social and digital. She produced several videos for the Facebook show, “The Good Stuff” and created a fitness series where she learned how to jump rope and hula hoop.

As a producer on the video programming team, she edited more than 430 original videos, which had 70 million views on desktop alone. Janelle programmed video content on CNN’s digital platforms.

Janelle is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She joined CNN in 2014 — starting as an intern in the investigative unit in Atlanta.
