Geneva Sands is a producer on CNN’s justice team with a focus on homeland security and immigration, based in Washington, DC.

Before joining CNN, Sands produced and reported for ABC News, where she covered terrorism, crime, federal law enforcement, the Supreme Court, cyber security and immigration. There, she reported extensively on gun violence, the opioid crisis and immigration policy.

Sands was a part of the team that was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award for the ABC News radio series on “America’s Fentanyl Crisis.” In addition, she was also a part of the team that received a News and Documentary Emmy for outstanding breaking news coverage of the Orlando Pulse nightclub massacre.

Sands began her career working in global media development at the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. She previously worked for Bloomberg TV, The Hill newspaper, as well as helping to launch the Washington, D.C. bureau for Fusion, the ABC News-Univision joint venture.

She is an alumna of the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism and American University.
