Based in CNN’s London bureau since 2006, Claudia Rebaza has played a key part in CNN’s coverage of major breaking news in Europe and across the EMEA region both in front of the camera and behind.

In the UK, Rebaza has reported extensively on Brexit, the unprecedented negotiations with the European Union and the country’s general election in December 2019 as a result of the political crisis. She covers political and diplomatic stories across Europe including the latest presidential elections in Russia, France and US President Donald Trump’s trips to the continent, among others.

Rebaza reported on the diplomatic crisis between Russia and the UK after the poisoning of the Skripals, President Putin’s talks with President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and Russia’s position on Venezuela. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s asylum and stay at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, his continuing legal battles, arrest and extradition hearing to the US have featured prominently.

Rebaza has reported on terror attacks in Europe and the fight against ISIS - including the attacks at Westminster Bridge, London Bridge, and Parsons Green in the UK capital – in addition to the terror attacks in Barcelona and Tunisia.

She is also a regular on international reaction after major geopolitical events such as the Iranian nuclear agreement and US military strikes on Syria.

Rebaza has also been deployed on major breaking news stories including the German Wings plane crash, the 2014 uprising in Ukraine, the referendum on - and subsequent invasion of - Crimea.

In the Middle East, Rebaza covered the months-long Israeli operation in Gaza from the Jerusalem bureau and the Syrian refugee crisis, including being the only journalist to accompany a group of Syrian refugees from Lebanon to Uruguay in October 2014. She also covered the Arab Spring uprisings across the region, including deploying to Libya after Muammar Gaddafi’s death in 2011.

With her base in the UK, Rebaza covers the Royal family, including events such as weddings, births and jubilees. She co-anchored CNNE’s coverage of the Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 and subsequently covered their decision to split from the monarchy.

Rebaza also anchored special events such as the day of Nelson Mandela’s funeral and the Nobel peace prize ceremony with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

She has reported from the World Economic Forum in Davos, having interviewed a host of Latin American leaders, including Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and key Latin American politicians.

Additionally, Rebaza has interviewed celebrities such as photographer Mario Testino, singers Juan Luis Guerra & James Blunt and Peruvian Tenor Juan Diego Florez.

In her role as producer of the newsgathering team in London for CNN, Rebaza has travelled to Russia and covered all developments regarding Brexit. She played a key role in the network’s coverage of the referendum in Catalonia, Spain and the political crisis that followed. She deployed to Malaysia after flight MH370 disappeared, to Norway for the terror attacks on youth camps, and to Italy for the Amanda Knox verdict and the Costa Concordia disaster.

Rebaza also covered the Papal conclave at the Vatican, for which she received an Emmy nomination for her work in the field. She received another nomination as part of the News editors team for CNN’s coverage of the shooting in Independence Square in Ukraine.

Rebaza has also been deployed to her native Latin America for Presidential elections in Venezuela and the Edward Snowden Asylum petition in Ecuador and Venezuela.

Born in Peru, Rebaza began her career in journalism in Lima. She gained her BA in Communications Science at Universidad de Lima and obtained her Master’s degree in International Relations and Political Theory at University of Westminster in London.
