Vanessa Yurkevich is a business and politics correspondent for CNN, covering the intersection of business and politics across CNN’s television and digital platforms.

In 2023, Yurkevich covered numerous labor strikes including the nurses strike in New York City, SAG-AFTRA, the Writers Guild of America, and the United Auto Workers union strike. Yurkevich led the network’s coverage of the UAW’s historic six-week strike against Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors. She landed key interviews live on air with GM’s CEO Mary Barra, and Ford’s CEO Jim Farley during the height of the strike. Yurkevich also broke the news that the UPS Teamsters union and UPS reached a deal this summer, avoiding a crippling strike.

Yurkevich spent the pandemic reporting on the economic impact it had on everyday Americans. She traveled the country covering the unemployment crisis, the plight of small businesses, labor shortages, supply chain issues, and inflation. She continues to cover how the Small Business Administration, Department of Agriculture, Labor Department, and Federal Reserve are addressing the continued economic recovery.

Previously Yurkevich covered the UAW strike against General Motors in 2019, the government shutdown that year, and she exclusively interviewed former Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue at the height of the trade war. She’s also interviewed business leaders incusing Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette and has exclusively interviewed Richard Branson and world leaders like Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway.

Yurkevich covered democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg on the 2020 campaign trail, and interviewed candidates Beto O’Rourke and Governor Jay Inslee, and perspective candidate Howard Schultz.

She has also reported extensively on immigration and has spent time reporting from the US-Mexico border. Yurkevich obtained exclusive photos showing for the first time the harsh conditions children are in when in Border Patrol’s custody. She also got rare access to the US Border Patrol Academy and spent months imbedded with three border patrol agents.

During the 2016 presidential election Yurkevich embarked on a one-month road trip for CNN’s award-winning #MyVote Campaign Camper tour, traveling the country to speak to voters. She spent Election Night anchoring CNN’s digital coverage from the Empire State Building which won an Edward R. Murrow, Webby and PROMAXBDA award.

Before joining CNN, Yurkevich worked at NY1 News and NY1 Noticias, BBC, The New York Times – The Local, and Associated Press Television in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She received the Scripps Howard Immigration Fellowship from the International Center for Journalists and the Knight Foundation’s US - Russia Young Media Professionals Fellowship.

Yurkevich is fluent in Spanish and received her bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in Communications and Spanish. She also holds a certificate for Polish language from Hunter College and is currently attending Harvard University getting her graduate Certificate in Business Economics.
