About

Sydney Kashiwagi is a politics reporter who covers breaking news.

Before joining CNN, Sydney was a City Hall reporter for The Staten Island Advance, New York City’s only borough-based daily newspaper. In this role, she covered the administration of former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio out of ‘Room 9’ and eventually all things related to state and local politics for the publication as well as everything from the NYPD disciplinary trial of ex-officer Daniel Pantaleo, Staten Island’s competitive NY-11 congressional race, the city and state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic as well as Staten Island’s efforts to secede from New York City.

Before New York City, Sydney covered the 9-member board of supervisors in Loudoun County, Virginia for The Loudoun Times-Mirror.

Sydney is a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C.
