About

Elise Hammond is a live breaking news writer for CNN Digital’s Live News Team in New York, covering the latest headlines in real-time.

She is responsible for writing dynamic, fast-paced updates and analysis during breaking news events. Her coverage on a variety of historic stories is read by millions of daily CNN users, including the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Jan. 6 insurrection and subsequent investigation and the killing of an al Qaeda leader. Hammond also dives into various political stories as well as state and federal elections. She is also passionate about covering the climate crisis and extreme weather— writing stories in a way that is digestible and impactful.

Hammond first joined CNN as a freelance writer for the Live News team in the spring of 2020, writing about the emerging Covid-19 pandemic, among other topics. She also previously worked as a multi-platform producer at WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she produced a daily, hour-long newscast and several cross-platform special projects.

She later came back to New York to help build and develop CNN+ as a member of the content programming team, covering breaking news in a non-conventional way while using analytics to curate user experience. After that, she joined the Live News team full-time in 2022.

She was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. You can follow her on Twitter @elisehamm3.
