Britain's King Charles III spent three days in Germany this week for what was his first overseas state visit as monarch.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Budenbender, rolled out the red carpet for Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, on Wednesday. It was the first time a head of state had been officially welcomed at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate rather than at the official residence of the German president.

On Thursday, Charles became the first British monarch to address the Bundestag, Germany's parliament. He paid tribute to the deep historical bonds and longstanding ties between the two nations.

The King's trip was initially meant to start Sunday in France, but that was scrapped amid strikes and civil unrest in the country.
