Susan Lee: In April 2020, CNN Travel's Maureen O'Hare spoke to Susan Lee (pictured) for the first time in more than 10 years.

North American Blizzard: Back in December 2009, O'Hare had been stranded by snow storms in New York following a work trip.

Google Hangout, 2009: O'Hare made video calls back home as she scrambled to get new flights at the busiest time of the year.

Planes, trains and automobiles: A delayed Greyhound bus to Albany, New York, meant O'Hare was about to miss her three connecting flights to Detroit, then London, then Belfast.

The O'Hares: But thanks to a car ride from Lee and her mother, Judy, O'Hare was able to join her family in Ireland in time for Christmas Eve.

Mother and daughter: In April 2020, Judy was living in Albany, a couple of hours away from where Susan was quarantining.

Friends reunited: Lee and O'Hare caught up over Zoom from their homes in New York and London, but they hope to meet again in person one day.
