Just north of theme park-obsessed Orlando, a stately vacation awaits those wanting a break from the rides and cotton candy. The historic resort town of Winter Park offers craft cocktails, boat rides, a mini-Central Park and galleries to explore.

The lovely Alfond Inn is owned by Rollins College, with profits funding scholarships to the school.

Modern art adorns the walls at the Alfond Inn, a satellite gallery of the Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art at the nearby college's Cornell Fine Arts Museum.

Winter Park has its own Central Park, and the Amtrak train stops right in the middle of the park.

The Scenic Boat Tour takes guests on an hourlong ride around three canal-linked lakes, including Lake Osceola.

The pontoon tour takes guests past Gatsby-like lakeside mansions.

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is home to the Tiffany Chapel, a stunning stained-glass masterpiece created in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Some visitors give in completely to the soothing atmosphere at the Morse museum, with many chairs in the Daffodil Terrace often occupied by gently snoozing partners of Tiffany enthusiasts.

Hannibal Square is the heart of Winter Park's historically African-American neighborhood and home of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Hannibal's permanent collection, "Photographs and Oral Histories of West Winter Park," documents the history of this once segregated community.

Park Avenue is home to many dress, accessory, kitchen and flower shops and most importantly, creative eateries offering craft cocktails.

Visit the Rollins College campus to see why it was voted the nation's most beautiful by Princeton Review in 2015.
