Singapore's Raffles Hotel: With a fabled history and quaint atmosphere, the Raffles Hotel is an irreplaceable icon to Singaporeans. And now, the legendary hotel is going to get a facelift.

The signature look: Not to worry -- the famous pristine white facade of this celebrated national monument will remain unchanged.

A touch of modernity: Raffles Hotel's suites need an upgrade to cater to modern luxury travelers. The refresh is being handled by Alexandra Champalimaud, founder of Champalimaud Design.

Suites: The layout of the suites -- with a parlor, bedroom and bathroom -- will be kept. But with optimized space, there will be 115 suites after the renovation. The Presidential Suite, pictured is one of the most extravagant suites in Asia.

Simple and modern: While the design will retain its British colonial feel, Raffles guests can expect lots of fresh whites and off-whites contrasting with dark floor finishes, with touches of dark blue, golden yellow and toasty orange as accents.

Tiffin Room: Tiffin Room, the hotel's main dining space where Charlie Chaplin dined during his visit (pictured here), will be getting a major overhaul. This includes the reinstatement of wooden herringbone flooring and the introduction of display elements that will showcase Peranakan porcelains and tiffin boxes.

A monument: "Raffles per se is a monument in many ways for many people," says Champalimaud, the designer behind the renovation. "They will come and see it with awe. People want to capture the essence of it, when they walk through it or stay. They want to feel the old ghosts a little bit."
