These two narrow-body, twin-engine, single-aisle planes are among the most common commercial jets in the world. To an amateur, it can be difficult to spot which is which given they're very similar in size. The secret is to look at the nose and tail shape.

Airbus A330 vs. Boeing 787 series —
Again, these two wide-body twin-engine jets are similar in size but their nose shapes offer an easy hint. Another giveaway? The Boeing 787 has a jagged engine cowling, or cover, and a raked wing tip.

Airbus A340 vs. Boeing 777 series —
Though both planes are commonly used for long-haul flights, these wide-body jets differ dramatically in appearance. The Airbus A340 has four engines, while the Boeing 777 has two.

Airbus A350 vs. Boeing 777 series —
This pairing is to become more relevant in the coming years given Airbus stopped producing the A340 in 2011. Its successor, the Airbus A350, is a twin-engine wide-body jet airliner with a raked wing tip and a conical exhaust vent.

Airbus A380 vs. Boeing 747 series —
Now this one's easy. Both might have four engines but the A380 -- the world's largest passenger jet -- is a double decker while the 747 has one and a half decks.
