North Korean tourism: The Wonsan-Kalma Tourist Zone, on North Korea's southeast coast, is being turned into a huge beach resort.

Beachfront, July 2018: Scores of buildings are under construction along the beachfront, many multi-story. These buildings are likely to be hotels, apartments and other amenities.

Marina, July 2018: A new marina for pleasure craft was underway in July 2018, as shown in this satellite image. It was completed in December.

Sports complex, July 2018: A sports complex with a soccer field and stadium are also underway as the resort takes shape.

October 2018: Kim Jong-Un made a site visit in October, when many buildings were nearing external completion.

Sanctions: With the country facing international economic sanctions over its nuclear weapons programs, tourism remains one of a diminishing range of viable revenue sources.

Guns and good times: The tourist zone is in an area that's simultaneously been used for ballistic missile launches and, in April 2017, what state media describes as North Korea's largest ever artillery drill.
