
The people who walk with reindeer, 2011 —
A Sami in Sweden mourns the loss of two reindeer that starved after locking horns in a fight for dominance, in this remarkable photograph by Erika Larsen.

Winter wonderland, 2011 —
The photographs are part of a National Geographic exhibition called "Women of Vision," featuring 11 female photojournalists. Here, a herder in Norway practices a time-honored custom called yoiking -- chanting softly while tending his reindeer.

Frozen world, 2011 —
Larsen spent four years living with the indigenous Sami people of Scandinavia, as part of the photography project. Tepee-style structures are common in Sami villages, where they are often used to smoke reindeer meat.
