The Ark, Matugama, Sri Lanka: Fancy a mountain escape? "Mountain View: The Perfect Holiday Homes" is a new book by Lannoo Publishers, showcasing stunning images of mountainous properties across the world.

Solo Houses, Cretas, Spain: The book was compiled by Sebastiaan Bedaux, a freelance lifestyle and travel journalist, who was inspired by his own vacations. "During my travels over the last decade I've stayed in many beautiful and interesting vacation homes," Bedaux tells CNN Travel.

Hen House, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK: While he was selecting the photographs, Bedaux's main criteria was the view -- such as this property on Scotland's Isle of Skye. "Secondly, all the houses in this book had to be visually striking and architecturally interesting. Cool interior design was also taken into account," says Bedaux.

The Ark, Matugama, Sri Lanka: Bedaux highlights "The Ark," a tree-topped property surrounded by rainforest and offering views of the jungle and wild birds below.

Trafjosen, Voss, Norway: In Norway, Trafjosen is a converted old cowshed transformed by OPA Form Architects into a spectacular cabin with snow-tipped views.

Mirror Houses, Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy: This pair of vacation homes designed by architect Peter Pichler in the southern Dolomite mountains reflect nearby apple orchards and the peaks beyond.

Scrubby Bay House, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand: So what's the appeal of a landscape view? Bedaux thinks its the prospect of exploring. "A mountain view is a promise of fresh air, hiking opportunities, adventure..."

Te Kahu, Wanaka, New Zealand: Waking up to a beautiful view of Lake Wanaka would be an unforgettable experience. "Te Kahu" is a cedar-wood-clad design that blends in with this stunning landscape.

La Pedevilla, Enneberg, South Tyrol, Italy: In the heart of the Dolomite mountains, this property is blessed with large windows showcasing the landscape.

Seidler House, Joadja, Southern Highlands, Australia: This beautiful property is designed to look as if it's floating. Seidler House offers spectacular views from its expansive decks and outdoor gardens.

Gut Feeling, Oberaudrof, Germany: In Germany's Kaiser Mountains, Gut Feeling is a playful play on words (Gut means good in German). It's the perfect location for skiing and hiking.

Shelter, Joshua Tree, California, USA: Bedaux hasn't visited all the properties on the list, but he says views are the things he recalls from places he's visited: "I remember the views of the Virunga mountains in Rwanda, of the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland, of the desert in Namibia and the fjords in Chile," he says.
