World walk: On May 21, 2022, Tom Turcich, from New Jersey, became the 10th person on record to achieve this remarkable feat, while his four-legged companion Savannah, pictured, became the first dog.

Source of inspiration: It was the death of his long-time friend Ann Marie in 2006 that inspired Turcich, seen with Savannah in the Moroccan badlands, to attempt the challenge.

Loyal companion: Around four months after he set off, Turcich acquired rescue dog Savannah from an animal shelter in Austin, Texas.

Dynamic duo: "She's been fantastic," he says of Savannah. "It's just nice to have someone to share some moments with."

Lengthy journey: They walked across six continents and 38 countries together over seven years.

Ever-moving twosome: During an average day, the pair would walk between 18 to 24 miles (around 29 to 38 kilometers).

Boundless energy: "The thing about Savannah was that she had so much more energy than I did, always," he adds. "This is all she's ever known."

Staying still: Now that their incredible journey is over, Turcich says that he and Savannah, pictured in Turkey, are content to stay in one place.
