Innovative concept: Designed by award-winning architect Kazuyo Sejima, the new Seibu 001 series is known as "Laview."

Mirror-style facade: The Seibu Railway commuter train has a reflective exterior devised to blend into the landscape as it travels across the city to the mountains.

Pioneering design: The aluminum paint used on Laview's exterior was specially developed for the private railway operator.

Cozy commute: The interior of the train is decked out with comfortable yellow chairs with an adjustable headrest and armrest table.

Luxury travel: "I wanted to make a train which feels like a living room where passengers can freely relax and feel motivated to ride," Sejima explains.

Spacious interior: Laview, which went into service in March, has eight cars and 422 seats.

Inventive model: Laview is the first train design from the architect, who was asked to come up with a new "never seen before" concept.

State-of-the-art train: Seibu Railway plans to replace all trains on the line between Tokyo's Ikebukuro district and Seibu Chichibu with the new trains by the end of 2019.
