Southern Decadence (New Orleans): This gathering of the LGBTQ community and their supporters on Labor Day weekend is one of the biggest events each year in the Big Easy.

West Indian American Day Carnival (New York City): Throughout the five-day programming line up, the event will welcome upward of 1.5 million people. Folks from surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods will of course be present in large numbers, but the organizers expect attendees from states near and far and even some from abroad.

Taste of Colorado (Denver): This Labor Day festival draws about 500,000 people over the course of the weekend. Along with the delicious food, attendees get to enjoy live music.

Chicago Jazz Festival: The festival starts on Friday, August 23, with performances all over the city in various jazz venues and clubs. The main performances on Labor Day weekend are center stage in Millennium Park.

Detroit Jazz Festival: Every Labor Day weekend, the sounds of jazz fill the air in downtown Detroit. Performers in 2019 will include artist-in-residence Stanley Clarke and Macy Gray.

Great Pershing Balloon Derby Brookfield, Missouri): This is the longest-running, continuously sanctioned balloon event in the country. Balloons fly up to several thousand feet, offering views of Missouri's lush landscapes. Cameras are encouraged.

Festival of Iowa Beers (Amana village, Iowa): More than 50 breweries across Iowa bring their beverages to the festival. Attendance in 2019 will be capped at 1,400 people.

LA County Fair (Pomona, Los Angeles): Not Labor Day specific, this three-week affair nonetheless has a full slate of fair events taking place over the holiday weekend.
