Upon entering the suite, an automated female voice inspired by John Carpenter's "Dark Star" welcomes the guest, or "crew member," confirms their log-in and offers handling instructions for the suite.

The suite was designed by artist Michael Najjar, who for the last three years has been training for a trip to space on board Virgin Galactic. He hopes to be the first contemporary artist to make the journey.

The so-called "zero gravity" bed in the sleeping module is designed to appear as if it is floating, while the mattress's rectangular shape is inspired by the monolith in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey."

The spotlights throughout the suite evoke rocket engines. "The intention was not at all to create a comfortable bedroom," says Najjar. "It´s more about creating an immersive environment which makes the hotel guest feel like living on a space station." <br />

In the living module (coffee table pictured) guests can watch Apple TV, as well as a curated selection of space-related movies, and in the sleeping module there's an iPod loaded with themed audio books in English and German.

Like the suite itself, the price tag is pretty astronomical. It's $1,890 dollars a night, including an hour's flight simulation in an Airbus A320 and a 90-minute body flying experience. <br />
