Japan's most romantic winter destination: Now in its 14th year, Nagashima Resort's annual Nabana No Sato winter illumination festival has grown to become one of most famous light displays in Japan.

For a good cause: The main theme of this year's festival is "Kumamon's hometown dream in Kumamoto." It features Kumamon, Kumaoto's mascot bear, traveling to the prefecture's most beautiful places. The initiative is aimed at reviving interest in Kumamoto, which was struck by a powerful earthquake in 2016.

Nabana No Sato: Millions of bulbs are used to create the annual light show.

Nagashima Resort: Nagashima Resort is a holiday destination featuring an amusement park, a giant Ferris wheel and an onsen spa.

Tunnel of lights: In addition to the main Kumamoto-themed light show, Nabana No Sato's 100-meter illuminated light tunnel is back.

Sakura-themed light tunnel: This year's tunnel light display mimics sakura, depicting different stages of cherry blossom growth.

Spring display: Running till May, the light show will welcome new elements in spring when the garden is in bloom.

The beauty of mother nature: Last year's theme was "the beauty of mother nature," showcasing natural sites from around the world. It attracted around 2 million visitors.
