Clifton Suspension Bridge, England: "The bridge acts as a gateway to the city (of Bristol), and mist adds a magic quality to an already stunning scene," photographer Sam Binding explains of his photo, which won the Historic England category.

Purton Hulks, England: Iain McCallum won the "Where History Happened" category with this drone photo of two ships that collided in the River Severn, Britain's longest river. The wreckage can only be seen at low tide.

Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, Brazil: Oscar Niemeyer's architectural marvel is a popular tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro. This photo was taken by a photographer identified only as Alistair.

St. Michael's Tower, England: In the county of Somerset, this tower is all that remains of a church built in the 14th century. Adam Burton took this aerial image of the tower and the area around it.

Scarborough Pier Lighthouse, England: The lighthouse almost looks like it's on fire in this dramatic sunset snap by Leeds-based photographer Andrew McCaren.

Sólheimasandur, Iceland: The wreckage of a US Navy aircraft that crashed in southern Iceland in 1973 is the subject of this dramatic photograph. Ukrainian photographer Yevhen Samuchenko says that his favorite time to take pictures is at night.

Tower Bridge, England: One of London's most popular sites is rarely seen from this perspective. Photographer Robert James had to time his visit to the moment low tide started and use a long exposure.

Hereford Cathedral, England: A few interior shots made their way onto the list as well. This one taken by Jo Borzony shows details from Hereford Cathedral, whose earliest section dates to 1079.

Mount Nemrut, Turkey: These ruins are what's left of the former Kingdom of Kommagene, headed by King Antiochus I Theos. Mehmet Masum Suer captured this dramatic photo of some of the statues there.

Bamburgh Castle, England: In Northumberland, it was the first castle in England to fall in 1464 during the War of the Roses. This sunset snapshot was taken by Scott Antcliffe.
