Greek idyll: The swanky resort of Costa Navarino is in the Greek region of Messinia in the southwest area of Peloponnese. It's home to the Barbouni restaurant -- and the moving-roof internet sensation.

Instagram hit: The beach bar opened in 2011, but it recently went viral thanks to a video post from @Levanterman.

Social media sensation: The resort says that the restaurant wasn't designed especially to be a hit on Instagram: "'Instagrammable' moments did not yet exist, but as they have become more popular the restaurant has become more widely admired," Costantza Sbokou-Constantakopoulou, the Senior Architect behind the resort, tells CNN Travel.

Hypnotic movement: The restaurant was designed by Greek architectural design company k-studio. "The architects took inspiration for the Barbouni roof from the dynamic and hypnotic movement of the waves of the sea in front of the restaurant," explains Sbokou-Constantakopoulou.

Fusion of wind and water: "They wanted to allow the wind to animate and play with the building in the same way that it animates and plays with the water surface, so that the building and the sea are in tune with each other and connected by the movement of the wind from moment to moment," says Sbokou-Constantakopoulou.

Natural materials: The restaurant sits on a wooden platform and is formed from natural wooden columns. The designers hoped that these natural materials would help establish the fusion between sea and land.

Breathtaking landscapes: The area around Costa Navarino is a picture-perfect ocean landscape. "One of the most unspoiled and breathtaking seaside landscapes in the Mediterranean, this area has been shaped by 4,500 years of history," says Sbokou-Constantakopoulou.

Social media sensation: The designers and the team behind Costa Navarino are pleased at the way the restaurant's roof has taken over social media. "The design of Barbouni together with the use of technology in photography and video, has had a very positive effect across social media, which we were very happy about!" says Sbokou-Constantakopoulou.

Timeless construct: Sbokou-Constantakopoulou says that the roof's social media fame will allow it to become "timeless" and go global.

Sustainable spot: The Costa Navarino resort prides itself on being sustainable, home to "bioclimatic and earth-sheltered architecture."
