Flying long-haul with kids —
Young Prince George's face says it all. Long flights with kids -- particularly babies -- stomps on any romantic notions of travel being about the journey, not the destination.

Before you go: Pre-order the kids' meals —
Now that's one happy looking family. They clearly remembered to pre-order the kids' meal prior to their flight.

A bit of junk food is OK —
"I Fly" indeed. Kids will be flying high on a sugar rush after they polish off one of these snack boxes Thai Airways hands out to children on its flights. That said, a bit of junk food will keep your children quiet those first few moments of a flight.

Take advantage of early boarding —
"We now invite passengers with small children to begin boarding at this time." When you hear these magic words, grab the kids and make a break for it. It's always nice to have a few extra minutes to get the kids settled as they fight over the window seat before the rest of the plane fills up.

Gadgets good, ear buds bad —
The in-flight entertainment system is your best friend on a flight. Hours of kids' movies, games and TV shows to keep them busy. Pack an extra pair of headphones though. Some airlines only hand out ear bud sets, which aren't built for little heads.

The drugs don't work (for everyone) —
Though some parents admit to hitting up a pharmacy for some children-friendly meds before a flight, bear in mind that shot of Benedryl could backfire -- antihistamines can make some children hyper.

The element of surprise —
Along with the snacks, games and other meltdown prevention essentials you've packed, it's wise to throw in a few small surprises. Think noise-free goodies like stickers, new crayons, coloring books, puzzles, little cars and dolls.

Check those bags —
If you let your kids pack their own carry-on bag of travel toys, you'd be wise to check what's going in there to avoid any unpleasant incidents at security.
