First hyperloop planned for China: Guizhou, a province in the southwest of China, has just signed China's first hyperloop agreement with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies in the province's Tongren region.

10km test track: The initial agreement will include a 10-kilometer test track through Tongren's mountainous landscape.

Elon Musk's brainchild: First envisioned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in 2013, Hyperloop can move people and cargo up to about 1,000km/h through low-pressure, nearly-zero-friction tubes and pressurized capsule rides.

Initial plans: A more concrete timeline plus possible destinations served will be determined in the next few months. Connecting Tongren city with Guiyang, the provincial capital of Guizhou some 400 kilometers away, is one of the routes considered.

First track began construction in Toulouse, France: HTT also signed hyperloop agreements with Abu Dhabi and Ukraine earlier in 2018. Its first track -- in Toulouse, France -- began construction in April 2018. The first phrase will include a 320-meter system.
