Wreck of Endurance: The ship Endurance (pictured) departed the UK for Antarctica in 1914 and sank a year later.

Starboard: A crew of scientists, explorers, historians and filmmakers located the shipwreck.

Taffrail and ship's wheel: The wreck is in the Weddell Sea in the Southern Ocean.

A century later: The mission, aptly named Endurance22, headed to the Weddell Sea from Cape Town on board the S.A. Agulhas II logistics vessel.

Through the ice: Saab made custom vehicles to use for underwater exploration.

Finding her: Though the wreck has been found, the ship will be left as is, which is a rule of the Antarctic Treaty.

A perfect specimen: "This is by far the finest wooden shipwreck I have ever seen," Mensun Bound, director of exploration, said.

Endurance is located: The site is about four miles south of where Endurance's captain estimated her to be.

The team: The discovery was a collaboration between the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust and History Hit, the content platform co-founded by historian Dan Snow.

Stay tuned: Footage of Endurance will air in a National Geographic documentary this fall.
