This 230 meter footbridge will connect Dubai city and man-made Creek Island, spanning a new purpose-built canal.

British architects IJP and structural engineers AKT II won a competition to deliver the bridge, which is expected to be a popular attraction within the multi-billion dollar Dubai Creek Harbour (DCH) megaproject.

The design, using lightweight steel cast in geometric patterns, is intended to create the effect of a cloud floating above the water.

The wider DCH development is among the largest in the Emirate's history.

The centerpiece will be the world's tallest tower, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, which broke ground in 2016.

The tower will feature a cable array inspired by the shape of a lily flower.

The tower is expected to surpass the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai.

The DCH development will also feature $2 billion mall Dubai Square, which will include concert venues and entertainment facilities as well as retail.

Dubai Square will also incorporate what is billed as the largest Chinatown in the Middle East.

The development is adjacent Ras al-Khor Wildlife Sanctuary on the banks of Dubai Creek, one of the major attractions to visitors.

AKT II director Paul Hutter says the design for the Dubai Creek Harbour bridge was inspired by Thomas Heatherwick's spiral staircase "Vessel" in Hudson Yards, New York.
