Copenhagen waterfront: Denmark is the first place in the European Union to fully relax its Covid-19 restrictions, having done an impressive job of getting on top of the virus thanks in large part to the spirit of samfundssind, or "social mindedness."

Stories to tell: The spirit of writer Hans Christian Andersen is kept alive in Denmark by players who continue to perform his stories.

Living the past: Performer Torben Iversen adopts the character of Hans Christian Andersen. "I will tell you that you shall always make your own life a fairy tale," he says. "If you remember that, that will be the most important thing."

Viking Quest: Richard Quest poses as a Viking for artist Jim Lyngvild, a descendant of Viking royalty who photographs people in Viking-style clothing.

Viking castle: Lyngvild lives in a recreated Viking castle and even has a temple to the Norse gods which is, he says, the first to be built on Scandinavian grounds in a thousand years.

Christiania freetown: Copenhagen's famous freetown dates back to 1971, when a group of free minded settlers broke into the Bådmandsgade military barracks and set up what has become one of the world's most famous experiments in collective living.

Grass garden: Christiania has become known for its free and easy approach to life -- it's not uncommon to find cannabis crops growing in front gardens.

Side by side: Tradition and rebellion seem to exist easily alongside each other in Denmark. Possibly what makes it such a welcoming place.
