Best North American airlines for customer satisfaction: J.D. Power's 2022 North American Airline Satisfaction Study asked over 7,000 passengers how satisfied they were with their airline. Taking the top spot for economy travelers is Southwest Airlines.

2. JetBlue Airways: JetBlue Airways came in second for its economy experience, but took the top spot for premium economy and first/business class passenger satisfaction.

3. Delta Air Lines: Last year, Delta was J.D. Power's highest ranked airline for customer satisfaction. This year, the airline is number three for economy, number three for business/first and number two for premium economy.

4. Allegiant Air: The 2021 J.D. Power survey suggested overall customers were enjoying the quieter flights that came as a result of Covid. Meanwhile, the 2022 J.D. Power report says travelers are far less happy.

5. Alaska Airlines: Michael Taylor, travel intelligence lead at J.D. Power, suggested that the comparison between height-of-Covid flights and a return to more "normal" travel was behind 2022's reported overall drop in satisfaction.

6. Air Canada: "Fewer passengers meant more space on airplanes, less waiting in line and more attention from flight attendants. But that business model was simply not sustainable," said Taylor of Covid-era flying.

7. United Airlines: Passengers in 2022 have to contend with busier flights, as well as a rise in disruptive passenger incidents, flight cancellations and soaring air fares.

8. Spirit Airlines: J.D. Power's Taylor suggests airlines can learn from the report and figure out some solutions.

9. American Airlines: "If airlines can find ways to manage these growing volumes while making some small adjustments to help passengers feel more valued, they should be able to manage this return to 'normal,'" said Taylor in a statement.

10. Frontier Airlines: The study examined how happy passengers were with aircraft, baggage, boarding, check-in, cost and fees, flight crew, in-flight services, reservations and food and beverage options.

11. WestJet: WestJet was the lowest scoring North American carrier for economy passenger satisfaction.
