This Airbus A350XWB test aircraft stopped in Atlanta this week on a tour of North and South America. Delta Air Lines has ordered 25 of the A350s. Airbus is expected to begin delivery to Delta in 2017.

Thanks to lightweight carbon composite materials, the A350XWB is one of the most fuel-efficient airliner families in the world.

The plane's signature features include 14-foot curved wingtips that are designed to let the plane cut through the air more efficiently.

The A350's fuselage is mostly made of strong, lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic. This material allowed engineers to design larger windows that offer passengers more panoramic views.

Airbus test pilot Frank Chapman explains a flight test data station aboard the A350 during its stop in Atlanta on Tuesday. Chapman was accompanied by Mike Bausor, left, Airbus A350XWB marketing director and Chris Jones of Airbus North American sales.

In January 2015, Qatar Airways became the first customer to fly the A350 commercially.

Qatar Airways plans to fly the A350 on routes between Boston and Doha, Qatar, next year.
