As part of the Rio Olympics' cultural program, artist Mariko Mori has installed a 10-foot acrylic ring above a waterfall near the city. The color of the ring changes color depending on where the viewer is standing and the position of the sun.

"Ring: One With Nature" has been installed atop the 190-foot Véu da Noiva waterfall in Mangaratiba, a municipality on the outskirts in of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It officially opened to on August 2.

Mori worked with aquarium-makers to develop the unique acrylic used for the ring. It took two years of research to figure out how to properly layer and apply color within the acrylic to create the desired prism effect.

Mori inaugurated the ring on August 2 with a special ceremony.

"The Olympic game logo, the symbolic logo is five rings symbolizing the unification of all nations and ethnicities, and celebrating peace," Mori says.

The "Ring" was inspired by a dream Mori had in 2009. In the dream, Mori was walking through a tropical rainforest, eventually arriving at the foot of a waterfall, where a golden ring appeared.
