"Fashion is a part of my life and my identity," Moufid told Berge. "I love fashion and to me it means freedom to be able to choose what I wear. Sometimes I get negative comments on Instagram about how I wear my hijab, but most of the comments are positive. My family supports me and last year I got a prize for Muslim personality of the year from the Stockholm mosque."

"When it comes to integration I believe fashion is a more effective way for change than any political labor market act. I started to modernize the veil when I realized how hard it is to get a job as a Muslim woman in a veil. You're not seen as an individual with feelings and thoughts, so I wanted to highlight individuality. It worked. Girls got jobs dressed in my design. Fashion can open many doors."

Faduma Aden was born in Somalia and now lives in Stockholm. "Fashion is a way to express your individual style, to feel fellowship with others and to reflect our time," she said to Berge. "When I design I have many different sources of inspiration. My main mission is to create classic and workable garments for women that want to be modest."

"It was interesting to see how ordinary girls became fashion icons on Instagram while Western fashion ignored this group," Berge said. "They seemed to dare more and to wear (the hijab) differently and mix it with fashion. They were expressive and they were not afraid to take up a lot of space."

"They really combine their faith and culture with Muslim values in a very organic way, which feels important to show these days where the image of Islam is very dark and people are very afraid of Muslims," Berge said.
