'They Still Live' is a photo exhibit and project created to encourage people, particularly African Americans, to discover their identity.

The project combines photography, DNA testing, maps, and African art.

Thomas Evans and Tya Anthony, the creators of the project, took photographs across the Colorado region.

The project was inspired, in part, by Paul Hamilton who has been collecting African art for decades.

The models in the photographs had their DNA tested so each item featured is linked to back to their heritage.

According to Evans 'They Still Live' says that the connection with distant ancestors may be obscured by the circumstances of horrible events, but that link to different parts of Africa still lives within us.

Evans says each photo communicates a different emotion based on the surrounding environment.

The creators hope to expand the project by having it recreated in other cities with a new set of models and photographers with art from the Hamilton collection.
