Dubai-based Amrita Sethi create artworks based on the waveforms created by a spoken word. This piece, called "2020," depicts various events from that year, "from the Australian bushfires, Kobe Bryant's tragic death through to the Black Lives Matter, the explosion in Beirut," and the impact of Covid-19.

Each piece starts with the recording of a word or phrase, from which she produces a computer-generated image of its soundwave. Sethi draws over the individual lines to create a picture inspired by that word or phrase. Her first piece, from 2019, is based on the word "Dubai" and shows the city's skyline.

In 2020 Sethi created a second Dubai piece. "Other skylines I've painted have not changed as rapidly as the Dubai cityscape. I really wanted to show the progression alongside recognition of Dubai's heritage," she said.

Sethi has also embraced NFT artworks. Her piece titled "WTNFT?" (What The NFT?) recently sold for $102,000. It shows the progression of NFTs from a fringe internet phenomenon into the mainstream.

Sethi, 40, left a successful career in finance to concentrate on her passion for art.

This piece, titled "New York," shows the city's skyline, including the Chrysler Building and the Statue of Liberty.

Her 2019 piece "London" depicts landmarks including The Shard and the London Eye.
