Conceptual fashion brand A. Human imagines a future where we change our bodies as we would our clothes.

The brand has opened an eponymous show in New York City.

It explores what it means to be human, with mock limbs shown alongside pieces modeled by live actors.

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Society of Spectacle, which bills itself as a "live entertainment storytelling brand."

SOS founder Simon Huck says the body modifications are made from "special-effects" silicon and keratin.

Huck says none of A. Human's modifications are based on existing standards of beauty or real-world conditions.

The creations were inspired by science fiction, and the work of architects and fashion designers, including the late Alexander McQueen.

"The Pinnacle" -- two turquoise horns emerging from a model's shoulders -- was created in collaboration with Italian designer Nicola Formichetti, former artistic director of Diesel.

The items are presented as a fall fashion line, but none of the pieces are actually for sale.

For now, it's a purely theatrical experience.

"A. Human" is on show until Sept. 30, 2018 at 48 Mercer Street, New York City.
