Yahya Abou-Ghazala is an award-winning producer with CNN’s investigative unit, based in Washington, DC. His work with the unit involves reporting and producing in-depth investigations for both digital and television audiences. Abou-Ghazala has worked on producing short-form video investigations, long-form feature documentaries, and in-depth digital interactive stories.
In 2024, Abou-Ghazala received an Edward R. Murrow award for his production role on a multi-part series exposing decades of coordinated sexual assault cover-ups within the U.S. Coast Guard. This series led to multiple congressional inquiries into the pattern of ignored misconduct, the resignation of a top official and a USCG internal review vowing change. The investigation was also nominated for an Emmy award. Abou-Ghazala additionally received a Murrow award for his work on CNN’s OSINT coverage of the Israel–Hamas War. Abou-Ghazala’s investigation into an Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed a Palestinian family one day after they followed evacuation orders was part of CNN’s coverage, which used open-source techniques to report on the war.
In 2024, Abou-Ghazala earned Gold at the Lovie Awards for his work on “Voice Notes from Gaza.” The digital interactive story on CNN.com used voice notes gathered from Palestinians inside Gaza to offer a window into life on the ground during the war.
Abou-Ghazala graduated from the University of Virginia where he studied Global Development.
