About

Gabriela Frías is a Mexican journalist with over two decades of experience. She currently hosts Panorama Mundial, the network’s flagship newscast covering the most significant global events.

In 2020, Frías moved to Mexico City to take the helm of the program Redacción México. Starting in 2022, she also began hosting Mercado México, a show covering business topics such as startups and entrepreneurship, multinational business leaders, digitalization and business trends, sustainability, and the energy transition.

For over 13 years, Frías served as an anchor for international and Latin American financial news at CNN, interviewing world leaders, reporting on global financial issues, and covering high-profile events such as the G-20 summit in Mexico and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. She is recognized as a leader in business journalism in Latin America.

Frías joined CNN in Atlanta in 2000 as a producer and contributor for CNN en Español’s nightly business program. She subsequently became the host of her own personal finance show, En Efectivo, which launched in 2001 and aired for ten years. In 2010, she moderated México 2020, a joint initiative between CNN en Español and CNNMexico.com that looked ahead to the coming decade and the country’s goals.

In late 2010, Frías brought her business journalism expertise to CNN en Español’s prime-time lineup, joining co-host Xavier Serbia for the launch of CNN Dinero. She later hosted Portafolio Global, a daily CNN en Español program that explored key perspectives, criteria, and figures, helping business leaders discover new information-based solutions for economic success.

She has interviewed presidents, government ministers, and high-ranking financial and economic officials—including International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and former Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn (during the financial crisis)—as well as conducting an exclusive interview with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus.

Frías frequently contributes to economic education by moderating and participating in forums across the region. She also provides a Latin American perspective for sister networks CNN International and CNN US.

Frías’s contributions to CNN have not been limited to business; she participated in coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States and the war in Iraq. Frías also traveled to Arizona to report on immigration reform.

In October 2024, she presented the special “Acapulco, One Year After Otis,” returning to the port city following the deadly Hurricane Otis to reconnect with survivors and learn about the challenges of their recovery.

Previously, Frías worked as a business reporter for Reforma, one of Mexico’s leading newspapers. In 1998, she held the dual role of co-anchor and journalist for Negocios México, a joint venture between Reforma and CNN en Español.

Frías graduated with honors from the Carlos Septién School of Journalism in Mexico City. She is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.
