Who are the hostages freed during the Israel-Hamas conflict?
Hamas and other militant groups kidnapped 251 people from Israel during the October 7, 2023 terror attacks. There is one additional hostage whose body was held in Gaza before the October 7 attacks. He is an IDF soldier who was killed in 2014.
Since the start of the war, 148 hostages have been returned alive to Israel – 140 were released and eight were rescued by the Israeli military. Several bodies of deceased hostages were also returned by Hamas.
The majority of those who were released alive were set free as part of two ceasefire agreements – one in late 2023 and the second early this year.
The Israeli military has also recovered the bodies of dozens of hostages. Some of these hostages were killed on October 7, 2023 and their bodies taken into Gaza. Others died in captivity.
Here are the names and details of the freed and recovered hostages as reported by family and local press. Their ages are stated as of the day of their release or as announced when their bodies were recovered.
