The U.S. and Iran reached a tentative deal to open the Strait of Hormuz and start nuclear talks, according to U. S. Officials. President Donald Trump hasn't signed off yet on the deal and the situation in the region remains tense. During today's White House press briefing, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declined to confirm details of the agreement, which could also potentially extend the ceasefire. But he insisted any deal would need to meet Trump's demands that Iran turn over its highly enriched uranium, commit to not pursuing a nuclear weapon, and reopen the strait. Yesterday, we told you Iran suggested that Oman would help manage the waterway. Today, Bessent threatened to possibly sanction Omani individuals or financial institutions if it supported tolling the straite. But he said he's been assured that won't happen.

'I had a call with the Omani ambassador this morning, and he assured me that there were no plans for tolling the strait. As he said, our countries have had 200 years of good relations. He wants to have another 200 more. And I told him that this was a non-starter.

Meanwhile, in Lebanon, an Israeli source says the Israeli military targeted a Hezbollah commander in the first strike in Beirut in weeks. Lebanon's health ministry says dozens of people were killed in Israeli strikes yesterday, in one of the deadliest days since the ceasefire in Lebanon took effect in April. The attacks come as Israeli forces issued fresh evacuation warnings for more cities in southern Lebanon. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military for comment.

'Coming up, bad news about inflation as we take a look at what Americans are spending the most on. Inflation is at a three-year high. The Iran War's oil price shock lifted the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gage to 3.8% in April from 3.5 in March, according to Commerce Department data. Consumers also spent at a slower pace in April compared to March. Americans are also burning through their savings. A new report shows households are saving at the lowest rate in nearly four years. Last month, more was spent on gas and other essentials: fuel, energy, utilities, housing, and food accounted for roughly half of the spending gains. However, the report showed increased spending on recreation and restaurants.

As Netanyahu spoke, the audience called for him to take over all of Gaza's territory. In late April, the Israeli military issued maps to international aid groups that showed the military already controlling about 64% of Gaza. But under an October, 2025 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, Israeli forces withdrew to a demarcation line known as the Yellow Line that left them in about 53% of Gaza. On Tuesday, Hamas accused Israel of moving the line saying it seriously violates the provisions of the ceasefire agreement.

'A former CIA officer was arrested last week after the FBI seized millions of dollars worth of gold bars from his home. That's according to an FBI affidavit and a source familiar with the matter. David Rush was charged with theft of public money. He hasn't entered a plea and remains behind bars pending a detention hearing in the case. The FBI affidavit says Rush worked for the agency for 17 years and was a senior executive government employee with top-secret clearance at the CIA, but now the FBI says he lied repeatedly on applications about his military service and education, saying he was a Navy pilot and had advanced degrees. Court documents don't clarify why the CIA failed to detect Rush's false claims before hiring and promoting him. An attorney for Rush declined to comment.

The Trump administration is planning to potentially put Trump's face on a commemorative $250 bill to mark the country's 250th anniversary. A Treasury Department spokesperson confirmed the plans in a statement.

That's Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent again. In fact, putting the image of a living person on U.S. currency is not authorized by U.S. statute. An exception to that law would need Congress's approval. CNN has reached out to the designer of the mockup bill for comment.
