Hey, from CNN, I'm Ifeoma Dike with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, May 19th.

President Donald Trump says he put a limited timeline on his decision to hold off on attacking Iran, as negotiators in the region work toward a potential peace deal.
Speaker 2
00:00:16
Well, I mean, I'm saying two or three days, maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday, something, maybe early next week, a limited period of time.

Trump says he was on the verge of launching new strikes on Tehran when the leaders of three Arab states urged him to wait. At today's White House press briefing, Vice President J.D. Vance said Iran's negotiating position is still unclear.
Vice President JD Vance
00:00:36
Maybe the Iranians aren't themselves quite clear in what direction they want to go to. They also are just a fractured country. And I don't know if that's sometimes bad communication, if that is bad faith. I wouldn't pretend to venture a guess there, but I will say with confidence, it's sometimes hard to figure out exactly what it is that the Iranian's want to accomplish out of the negotiations.

'A senior Pentagon official declined to say whether the Trump administration would rule out putting boots on the ground in Iran and didn't say whether it would seek approval from Congress to restart strikes. But the economic fallout from the Iran war continues to drag. 30-Year U.S. Treasury yield rose to its highest level since 2007 over inflation concerns. Higher yields can ripple through to higher mortgage rates, auto loans, and rates on business loans. The auto industry is also bracing for motor oil shortages.

More news coming up, including new information on Trump's IRS settlement.

The IRS can't bring claims against President Trump, his family, or businesses for past tax issues. That's according to more terms added to the settlement the Justice Department reached with Trump to resolve his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS. The new terms were released hours after acting Attorney General Todd Blanch denied that a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate Trump allies who claimed they were targeted by the Biden administration is unprecedented and unwarranted. During his first Senate hearing as Acting A.G., Blanche didn't give a lot of details on how the fund will be distributed. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen asked Blanche if law enforcement officers assaulted on January 6th would be eligible for payout.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen
00:02:15
Are there going to be rules that say that if you've assaulted a Capitol Hill police officer or committed a violent crime, you will not be eligible? Why not make that a rule?
Todd Blanche
00:02:25
I expected that, well, because I'm not one of the commissioners setting up the rules.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen
00:02:28
You're appointing four of the five members, aren't you, Mr. Attorney General? Pardon me? You're appointing four of five members.
Todd Blanche
00:02:34
I am appointing all five members?
Sen. Chris Van Hollen
00:02:35
You can certainly set up the rules. I would hope you would make a rule that anyone convicted of assaulting a police officer of a violent crime is simply not eligible. They should not apply.

The IRS and the DOJ did not immediately respond to CNN's inquiries about the new language.

Now to a major blow to GOP plans in the Texas Senate race. President Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over incumbent Senator John Cornyn ahead of the primary runoff next week. Trump's previous plan was to support Cornynn, but sources familiar with the matter told CNN Trump was frustrated that his intentions were leaked to the press. Within days, Paxton promised to consider dropping out of the runoff if Senate Republicans abolished the filibuster to pass Trump's voting restrictions bill, which appeared to sway Trump. Cornyn was seemingly willing to capitulate despite past comments opposing a change to filibustering rules. On X Today, Cornynn said that the president, quote, "has consistently called me a friend in this race," and he trusted the voters in Texas. He also referred to Paxton as a, quote "weak nominee." Many Republican senators told reporters they were, quote, "disappointed" about the president's decision to back Paxton. Here's Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

We have never, ever expected such thing to happen at the Islamic Center of San Diego. I mean, we are used to receiving hate mails, hate messages, people driving by and cursing and all that stuff. But such horrible crime, we have never expected this.

'That's the director of the Islamic Center of San Diego earlier today. He paid tribute to the three people, including a security guard, who were killed in a shooting there yesterday. San Diego's police chief says two of the victims were killed while trying to draw the attention of the suspected shooters away from the mosque and into the parking lot. Two teenage suspects who appeared to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds were found in a car near the mosque. Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. Multiple law enforcement officials say a suicide note that contained writings about racial pride was also found. The FBI says the suspects appear to have been radicalized online.

In coordination with the San Diego Police Department, we're currently conducting extensive interviews with the subject's family and friends. We've executed three search warrants at residences associated with the subjects. During those searches, we found and seized numerous firearms from two of those locations, including numerous pistols, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, tactical gear, as well as electronics. So far in this investigation, we've seized over 30 guns and a crossbow. We're continuing to process the information from all the locations And we will provide more information when we're able to do so.

Coming up, Google's biggest change to the search bar in years.
Ifeoma Dike
00:05:38
'Google wants to help you Google less. The company has revealed new AI-powered features for its search engine, AI Assistant Gemini, and other services. You can type longer and more conversational questions or requests in the new search field, aligning with the way you might talk or type into Gemini or ChatGPT. You can also create agents in the search bar that can track or research topics on their own, which is useful for tasks like apartment hunting or tracking new clothing releases. The company will also generate custom visuals and many apps in response to certain requests, like a fitness tracker with a person's location, weather data, and apps connected to their Google account.
