The Federal Reserve kept interest rates steady for the first time since July, matching Wall Street's expectations. U.S. Stocks were mixed with the Dow closing higher by 12 points, the S&P and the Red slightly, and NASDAQ posting gains. Two Fed officials wanted quarter point rate cuts, but here's some possible reasons why that didn't happen. Rate changes take time to work their way through the economy, sometimes many months. While the central bank says the economy and job market show signs of improvement, they also say inflation is still high. So voting members on the committee probably wanted to see if their previous three rate cuts are doing the trick, for now anyway. This all comes as the Federal Reserve's independence is at stake in the Supreme Court, and Fed Chair Jerome Powell faces a criminal inquiry. Powell's term ends in May this year. And when asked by CNN what advice he has for his successor, he responded,

'Federal immigration officers involved in Alex Prady's fatal shooting in Minneapolis on Saturday have been placed on administrative leave. That's what a senior Department of Homeland Security official confirmed to CNN. It's standard protocol while internal investigations play out. Prady family says he worked as an ICU nurse treating sick veterans. We also have an update on the attack against Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a town hall last night in Minneapolis. A federal law enforcement officer says Capitol Police are weighing possible federal charges against the man accused of spraying what's now believed to be apple cider vinegar toward Omar. He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault. Omar wasn't hurt.

The FBI is searching an elections office in Fulton County, Georgia for alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election. A source tells CNN the search is related to an effort by the Justice Department to election records. The DOJ previously sued Fulton County officials to force them to hand over records related to the 2020 election. A judge hasn't ruled in the case yet. The alleged voter fraud in the county, including Atlanta, has long been a centerpiece of President Donald Trump's baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. But the DOJ and Trump's first term didn't find any evidence to support his allegations. FBI Atlanta declined to give more information, saying that, quote, Our investigation into the matter is ongoing. Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified for nearly three hours at a Senate hearing today. He defended the Trump administration's work with the interim Venezuelan government, led by former officials of Nicolas Maduro. He noted there's been progress and that they're watching the interim authorities closely. Venezuelan opposition leader María Machado spoke to reporters after meeting with Rubio shortly after his hearing.

Rubio said the U.S. Has a phased approach to eventually transition to a democracy in Venezuela. On Iran, he said, quote, no one knows who would take over if Iran's supreme leader were removed from power. He acknowledges the situation would be more complicated than Venezuela.

That's President Trump referring to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon during a speech touting his new investment initiative, Trump Accounts. A feud between Trump and Dimon escalated when Trump sued him and JPMorgan over allegations that the bank improperly dropped him as a client for political reasons in 2021. Still, the company became one of several to help fund Trump's initiative, which aims to seed investment accounts for American children starting at birth. Rapper Nicki Minaj was one of the big names invited on stage to speak at the event today. She's expected to pledge a contribution of her own to the Trump accounts initiative.
