'Not going to cut it': What the latest jobs report tells us about the economy

US employers cut 23,000 jobs in July — far below forecasts for a 95,000 gain — after June’s total was revised down to 20,000, signaling growing caution amid AI adoption, higher oil prices, policy uncertainty and the war with Iran, even as unemployment fell to 4.1%.
