A 45-year-old Egyptian national has been charged with a federal hate crime after an attack left at least 12 people injured in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday.

According to charging documents, suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman used a homemade flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to attack demonstrators who were at a peaceful Jewish event supporting hostages in Gaza. He later told authorities that “he wanted to kill all Zionist people and wished they were all dead,” an affidavit said.

Soliman had been planning the assault for a full year, he told federal authorities. He also faces state charges of attempted murder.

Soliman appeared in state court Monday and was expected to appear in federal court on Friday. CNN has reached out to his attorney for comment.

Soliman, his wife and their five children arrived in the United States in 2022. The White House said Tuesday that the family’s deportation was imminent, but a federal judge ordered a halt to that on Wednesday.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.

The ban meant no supplies entered the territory for 11 weeks, pushing Gaza’s 2.1 million people deeper into a hunger crisis. Israel eased its blockade two weeks ago, allowing a small amount of aid to enter Gaza, but the amount of aid trickling in is nowhere near enough to meet the needs of the population, according to Palestinian officials and international aid groups.
