Jimmy Buffett, the singer-songwriter whose music celebrated a laid-back lifestyle, has died at the age of 76. Buffett had been fighting Merkel cell skin cancer at the time of his death, according to an updated obituary on his official website. He had the disease for four years and continued to perform during treatment.
Songs like "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" built Buffett an enormous following of fans, affectionately known as "Parrotheads."
Later in his career, he harnessed his enduring popularity into a business empire with bestselling books, a Broadway musical and a string of casual restaurants, resorts and other ventures.
