John Hickenlooper, the former governor of Colorado, ended his presidential run with a video posted on his Twitter account on Thursday, August 15.

"Today, I'm ending my campaign for President," Hicklenlooper said in the three-minute video. "But I will never stop believing that America can only move forward when we work together."

A week later, Hickenlooper announced that he would be running for the US Senate.

Hickenlooper served two terms as governor, from 2011 to 2019, and he was Denver's mayor from 2003 to 2011. He had a career as a geologist in his early years. When he was laid off in the 1980s, he found success in business by opening a large brewpub.

During his presidential campaign, Hickenlooper leaned on his Western roots and decades of executive experience. He and his team hoped that his record of achievement in Colorado, including his ability to work with Republicans, would set him apart.
