The MaaSci Project —
Kenyan artist, Jacque Njeri, was inspired by the spirit of nomadic life of the Maasai community in Kenya and Tanzania and decided to take them to space.

Traditionally, the Maasai community are known to be cattle herders; often crossing borders between Kenya and Tanzania. The inhabit the border areas of the two East African nations.

For years, the Maasai have been crossing borders of Kenya and Tanzania. No government authorities in these nations ask them for travel documents when crossing their respective borders.

Njeri's MaaSci recreates Tatooine city - a fictional desert planet from the movie series 'Star Wars' while incorporating elements of Maasai culture.

Njeri used the Maasai to, "provide that rich cultural aesthetic to the different science fiction themes represented in the compositions."

Njeri says her art was hugely influenced by the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, and other traditional African arts.
