Hollywood star Jay Leno restores vintage cars and motorbikes in his garage in Burbank, California.

Leno began his entertainment career in the 1970s making minor TV appearances. In 1977, he appeared for the first time on "The Tonight Show," where he performed stand-up comedy.

In 1992, Leno became "The Tonight Show's host," taking over from Johnny Carson. He fronted the program for 17 years until 2009 and then again from 2010-2014, making him its second longest serving presenter after Carson. Leno is pictured with US presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Towards the end of his first tenure with "The Tonight Show," Leno agreed a new contract with NBC to host "The Jay Leno Show." This aired until 2010, after which Leno returned to his former role.

In 2000, Leno was awarded a plaque on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He has taken time to painstakingly restore his vintage car collection, which now resides in excellent condition in the star's garage.

There are also a few motorbikes amongst Leno's collection, which he occasionally navigates around the spacious garage.

Leno said he thinks many Formula 1 cars are "almost spacecraft" due to the immense technological advances in motorsport. His garage, by contrast, is tinged with nostalgia, offering a trip back in time to a bygone age in car manufacturing.

Despite the brilliant condition to which many of the cars have been restored, Leno is adamant he doesn't want this part of his life to be anything more than a hobby.

CNN Sport's Don Riddell enjoyed a rare glimpse into the TV host's remarkable car collection.
