
Milos Raonic upset 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-3 on Monday to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals.

Wawrinka said post-match that he had been ill for 10 days and struggled to reach the heights that saw him claim his first grand slam title two years ago.

David Ferrer overcame big-serving American John Isner 6-4 6-4 7-5 and will face Britain's Andy Murray in the quarterfinals.

Gael Monfils was at his spectacular best during his four-set victory over Russian Andrey Kuznetsov. The Frenchman injured his hand diving for a shot and told reporters: "I'm lucky to not have a fracture."

Johanna Konta became the first British woman to reach a grand slam quarterfinal since 1984, following her upset win over 2015 semifinalist Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.
